DropBox
It is a fact that we are truly in a technological age ,where people are using phones , laptops , iPads etc. on a daily basis. Most of these technologies make it really easy to store files , photos , videos and other documents. The problem with this is that it can be really time-consuming to get all your files , photos and videos together in one place. This is where a company called “DropBox” comes in , as they take the hassle out of synchronizing your files and makes it really easy and user-friendly to get all of these files in one place.

DropBox was introduced to the public during the end of 2008 and as of June 2011 are one of the biggest players when it comes to online file synchronization and online data storage. So ,what exactly is DropBox and what does it do?? DropBox allows you to localize/centralize ALL your files , videos and photos in 1 place. By doing this you are able to access all your files from different technologies – i.e your mobile phone , laptop , iPad or desktop…. I think that this is pretty cool as we all might have experienced the feeling of having forgotten a flash drive at home or having to deal with a flash drive acting up. DropBox takes all of these problems away in an instant!
How DropBox Works :
- Install DropBox on your phone , computer , iPad etc.
- Add files, photos and videos to your DropBox Folder.
- DropBox automatically synchronizes all these files between all of your devices.
- All your files , videos and photos can now be accessed via any of your devices – phones , laptops , iPads etc.
- Your are also able to go to DropBox’s Website and access your files from someone else’s phone or computer.
DropBox does thus make it really easy to have access to all your files from any technology , i.e computer or phone. I personally use DropBox as a Backup client as well , as all my backups are stored at a secure place away from my premises. Thus , in case of a fire or flood my files are securely backed up on DropBox’s servers. This definitely gives me a lot more peace of mind knowing that my files are securely stored at more than one location. With DropBox I’m also able to do work from both my office and from home without having to take my work computer home or the need to put everything on a flash drive. Pretty Cool!
Here’s a YouTube video explaining DropBox further:
DropBox makes sharing of files really easy , as you are able to create a specific folder within DropBox that can be shared among different people. You can thus share various files with friends , family and even use it for work purposes , for example in situations where files need to be shared among colleagues. You can thus have friends/family and colleagues from all over the world have access to the same files. It is basically done through cloud computing which , as the name suggests, store files on a remote server.
DropBox is available on Windows, Mac , Linux , Iphone , Ipad , Blackberry and Android. So most technologies are covered by DropBox. DropBox is free for your first 2GB of data storage and you’ll receive an additional 250mb of free storage per person your refer to DropBox’s services. Data Storage and transmission are encrypted , so I’m pretty confident that DropBox uses the most up-to-date technology when it comes to data security.I’ve been using DropBox for almost a year now for backups and data storage and so far I’ve been pretty happy with their service and I do not have any complaints.
