ObjectDock – Mac Style Desktop
If you , like me, constantly struggle with having your desktop cluttered with way too many files , then a program called “ObjectDock” could come in very handy. It is possible to sort your files into folders , but there are certain programs you use a lot and you need them at a place where they can be easily accessed. This is where ObjectDock comes in , as it gives your Windows desktop the feel of a Mac computer’s desktop when it comes to the organization of desktop icons. Instead of placing icons/shortcuts , horizontally and vertically on your desktop , the icons/shortcuts you choose are placed on your desktop via a toolbar.

The really great thing about the toolbar is that the toolbar and the shortcuts that you have chosen ,are hidden from sight until you move your mouse over the place where you’ve decided to insert the toolbar on your desktop screen. This does thus make your entire desktop screen usable and visible. You can choose the styling of the toolbar and how many dockets/icons you want to be displayed on this toolbar. You can also choose exactly where you want the toolbar to be displayed , i.e left , right , top or bottom of your screen. I use a combination of the ObjectDock and some folders on my desktop screen to have the best utilization of my desktop screen.
You can add some pretty cool docklets/icons for things like: weather , email , time , battery and any other program you use on a regular basis. I found the set-up of the program and its different docklets and functions to be pretty quick and easy. The shortcuts I use most often and that I placed on my toolbar are these : Mozilla Internet explorer, VLC video player , Microsoft Word and the weather. The weather is something I check on a constant basis and the ObjectDock gives you a 5-day weather forecast!
The ObjectDock from the Stardock Corporation comes in a free version and a pro version. The Pro version adds some improved functionality , such as the option to have multiple toolbars/docks and the ability to improve the function of switching between tasks. For the purposes that I use my computer , the Free version of the Objectdock is more that sufficient in achieving the goals I want to achieve , which is to unclutter my desktop!
